A Right Royal Evening
One of Britain’s much-loved actresses, Penelope Keith, starred in A Right Royal Evening on Friday 23rd April 2010 to help raise funds for Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People and celebrate 75 years of them providing disability services in Surrey.
Penelope starred as Elizabeth I, re-prising her Royal role in this series of witty monologues that are interspersed with music from the age of Elizabeth’s court, in Susannah Waters’ play ‘The Regina Monologues’. The Regina Monologues first toured to sell-out houses in 2003 to mark the 400th anniversary of Elizabeth’s death. It was specially re-produced at the Leatherhead Theatre in a one-off encore performance on St George’s Day to mark QEF’s 75th anniversary.
The evening programme was introduced by compere and QEF Ambassador, Gary Festa, and also consisted of live musical entertainment from Soloists, Alexandra Edwards and Nicki Popkiewicz-Smith. Alexandra who sings in the Surrey Youth Choir and National Youth Training Choir also won Woking Music Festival’s Most Promising Young Singer of the Year Award and Nicki has been involved in musical theatre for over 20 years.
