Computer Aided Design

Course description

You will learn 2D and 3D AutoCAD, which is the basis for computer aided design in any field.

Pre-entry Requirements

  • A good standard of English, Maths and I.T. skills are needed, as report writing and mathematical calculations will be a requirement of the course. Open Learning will be available to brush up or improve your skills if they are rusty, and a College assessment will identify these needs.
  • A background in engineering or construction will be an advantage, but is not essential.

What skills will I learn?

  • Computer-aided Draughting incorporating 2D & 3D drawings
  • Relevant Health & Safety
  • If you have the ability, other CAD packages may be available, i.e. Inventor and Archicad.
  • Practical Experience
  • During the course, you will offer a range of services to a variety of clients in the College to help you gain practical skills and experience.

What Qualifications can I get?

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Computer Aided Design (CAD) – 2D (4353-01)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Computer Aided Design (CAD) 2D (4353-02) and 3D (4353-03)

Employment Opportunities

You can expect to work as a CAD Technician. Your Employment Development Manager will help you to make the right choice. Prior to joining College, it is very important that you look at the job market in your home area and check the salary level you may start at. Bear in mind you will enter the market at a start up salary until you have acquired more experience.

Course Length – Flexible with up to 40 weeks training plus work experience.
