IT Support and Maintenance

 

Course description

This course is based on the NVQ Installing & Supporting IT Systems, but it also gives you more ‘hands-on’ experience in upgrading and maintaining computers.

Pre-entry Requirements

  • Reasonable standard of numeracy
  • good comprehension and literacy
  • skills, plus manual dexterity required
  • Good colour vision.
  • You will need to be able to lift and move computer equipment.

A College assessment will be undertaken

Course Content

Using your IT skills you will learn about fault diagnostics, software installation and support and how to identify and replace defective components and support IT users. Occasional visits to industry events.

What skills will I learn?

  • How to support a wide range of IT hardware
  • How to support a variety of Windowsâ„¢ software, e.g.: Word processing, Graphics etc
  • Desktop publishing & Internet
  • Modern networked computer systems.

What Qualifications can I get?

  • City and Guilds 4324 NVQ for IT Professionals/Practitioners at Levels 1, 2 or 3
  • Comptia A+ or Net+ training is available for suitable candidates.

Employment Opportunities

Job roles include Help Desk Support Advisor, or IT Support Technician/Engineer, or become self-employed. Your Employment Development Manager will help you make the right choice. Prior to joining College, it is very important that you look at the job market in your home area and check the salary level you may start at.

Course Length - Flexible with up to 39 weeks training plus work experience.
