The Importance of Brain Injury Awareness Week!

BIC cakeOn March 17 Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation Brain Injury Centre did its bit to promote Brain Injury Awareness week 2005 by holding an open day.

The day’s proceedings focused on the vocational aspects of rehabilitation and returning to work after having acquired brain injury. Every year more than 11,000 people in the UK receive treatment for severe brain injury. Many have persisting physical, communication, cognitive and social-behavioural difficulties and require ongoing rehabilitation.

Tony Hart from the Brain Injury Centre was on hand to show guests around: “People were really amazed at what we actually offer here, all under the one roof. The Brain Injury Centre is a unique Centre.”

The Brain Injury Centre works with people who have been severely affected by brain injury during young adulthood. A team of specialist staff including physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, teachers, occupational therapists and trained support team, work to help these young adults regain lost function, develop compensatory strategies and achieve greater independence in their lives.
