Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation held a summer fete to thank its volunteers for all their hard efforts throughout the year. Paul Beresford, MP for Mole Valley and around 200 volunteers came along to Oaklawn Road, Leatherhead on 6 July to enjoy themselves in the unaccustomed sunshine.
Definitely aimed at fun rather than formality, the proceedings kicked off to loud cheers of encouragement when male staff and volunteers performed their own rendition of the Full Monty being spared their blushes at the last moment by sympathetic female colleagues.
Following the male contingent came the ladies with a more traditional catwalk fashion show, modelling clothes kindly donated to the Foundation’s 13 shops across Surrey.
And, when this excitement died down, there was still plenty on offer to keep our volunteers entertained with a live band, a seasonal offering of Pimms, side shows, plants and gifts for sale and not least, Bridie an 8ft tall tea lady dancing on stilts to the tunes of Dean Martin & Tom Jones.
The Foundation is proud to boast hundreds of volunteers offering their time and services throughout our Centres. Our highly successful Retail business could not continue its critical fundraising efforts without the dedicated support of their own volunteers who staff the shops and distribute Christmas cards and gifts on behalf of the Foundation.
“The majority of our volunteers have been with us for many years – once they have done their apprenticeship, they are hooked. The reason being, it’s a lot of fun. If you would like to come and join us, please do just give us a call on 01372 843616,” said Colin Day, Director of Retail Operations, Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation.
