

Course description
You will learn the practical skills that will help you find and keep a job in this industry.
Pre-entry Requirements
A reasonable standard of literacy and numeracy is required as reading, writing and measuring form a part of this course. You will be expected to be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Open learning will be available to brush up rusty skills. You must be able to lift and carry materials and the finished products that are used in construction. A college assessment will be undertaken.
What skills will I learn?
Practical Experience
During the course, you will be able to practice by producing items for clients in the College to help you gain confidence and improve your skills.
What Qualifications can I get?
City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Basic Construction Skills – Multi-crafts (6217-08).
This will include three units from the list above (except plastering).
Employment Opportunities:
You could expect to work in a maintenance team for a commercial, charitable or retail organisation; as a general builder's assistant or do site work. You may be thinking of becoming self-employed, but you will still be expected to do a work placement first. Your Employment Development Manager will help you to make the right choices.
