We are delighted to invite you to our Spring Lunch with our much-loved shopping fayre, a delicious two-course meal and a fashion show curated by local image and style consultant Carole Ann Geddes.  Plus we are thrilled to announce our guest speaker’ Hugo Vickers!

We are excited to welcome Hugo Vickers to the lunch:

The Financial Times recently described him as: ‘the most knowledgeable royal biographer on the planet.’

Hugo Vickers is well known as a biographer, lecturer and broadcaster, and is an acknowledged expert on the Royal Family.

He is called uHugo Vickerspon to commentate on important state occasions, and at times when the Royal Family are in the news.  He has covered events from the first wedding of the Prince of Wales, many royal weddings and the funerals of Diana, the Queen Mother, Prince Philip, the  State Funeral and Committal of The Queen, and the Coronation of Charles III.

He has written many biographies of 20th century figures, including Cecil Beaton, Vivien Leigh, the Duchess of Windsor, Princess Andrew of Greece, and the Queen Mother.  He attacked the sixty episodes of the Netflix series of The Crown – in his book, The Crown Dissected.

He will be speaking of his experience writing Cecil Beaton’s biography, who had photography links to the fashion world.

Cecil Beaton was one of Britain’s greatest cultural icons – not just as a photographer capturing some of the most celebrated portraits of the 20th Century but also as a designer of the iconic sets and costumes for the films My Fair Lady and Gigi, which defined the glamorous look of the era and won him three Oscars for costume and art direction.

In 1980, Beaton personally chose Hugo Vickers to be his biographer, entrusting him with his diaries and the entire body of letters he had written – both personally and professionally – including from 30 years working for Vogue. His first solo exhibition in London in 1927 established him as one of the leading fashion photographers of his generation.

We are so excited to hear all about Hugo Vicker’s experience collaborating with him.
