Phoebe was just 18 when she came to QEF’s Care and Rehabilitation Centre (CRC) after a catastrophic series of seizures put all her plans on hold.
Today you’d never know that Phoebe had suffered brain damage, thanks to the outstanding personalised care she received meant. Without compassionate supporters like you, that simply wouldn’t have been possible.
Before the seizures, Phoebe had been excelling in her A-levels, having fun with friends and looking forward to the future. When Phoebe first came to the CRC, she was struggling to speak, unable to grip with her right hand and had one wandering eye. Nevertheless, her feisty, bubbly character shone through.
In Phoebe’s speech and language sessions she found it easier to express herself by singing. So together with neurological music therapist Kae we capitalised on her love of music. One of her aims was to remember all the words to the song ‘Linger’ and perform it in front of family and staff.
Phoebe’s confidence, language and motor skills all improved as she sang and played the ukulele. At the same time, we worked to improve her reading and writing, while occupational therapists Mark and Sandra tapped into Phoebe’s creativity, through cooking and craft.
It’s our teamwork which makes the CRC special. And you’re a vital part of our team. Because without you, we couldn’t turn lives like Phoebe’s around.
