Building work on the new Centre of Excellence begins at QEF’s Leatherhead site

Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People (QEF) is pleased to announce that ground has been broken on an ambitious new development at its site on Woodlands Road, Leatherhead.

This comes soon after contracts were exchanged with Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd over the sale of land on the site to be used for housing.

The work that has commenced is the first step in QEF’s plan to redevelop the site into a campus type location from where a range of integrated services for people with disabilities can be delivered. The sale of land to Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd will fund these new much-needed facilities.

The homes that Berkeley will be constructing, combined with the new facilities for QEF, will replace buildings on the site that are no longer fit for use, which are currently being demolished.

Tricia McGregor, QEF’s interim chief executive officer said: “I’m so pleased that we are progressing with the next steps in our plan to rejuvenate our facilities on Woodlands Road. The sale of land to Berkeley Homes is a genuine ‘enabling development’ as the funds it provides will enable us to proceed with exciting plans for new integrated services for people with disabilities of all ages.

“QEF’s vision is for state of the art facilities on a modern, green campus where we can add to the scale and scope of our services supporting people with disabilities who want to increase their independence. I believe this new campus will make a real difference in the lives of people with a disability and be of great benefit to the local community, the region and more widely too.”

Chris Gilbert, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd commented, “I am delighted that Berkeley Homes have agreed to purchase this land from QEF. We are now in the third year of our support for this charity via the Berkeley Foundation, so I am delighted the relationship is set to continue.”
